Being a stranger in a foreign land can be a lonely place. I started this blog to share what our new life was like with family and friends. Little did I know then that I’d have 1001 things to say. But indeed I have. This is my 1001 Domestic Executive post and it feels like quite a milestone.
My first 1000 posts have been about hopes and dreams, reflections of the past and quite a lot of bragging about new and exciting things. I’ve moaned a great deal about the weather, strange kiwi ways, the trials about building a house and how I feel when things just don’t go my way. This blog has been my pipeline to people who matter most to me and although the conversation can be a little one sided I take comfort in the knowledge that there are people checking up on me.
Like all things in life blogs evolve. Regular visitors will have noticed a fair amount of tinkering going on lately with the layout and format of the blog. I decided that, unlike my wardrobe, it was time to keep things up to date. The process of web site design is still mind boggling to me but the more blogs I read the more blogs the more I want my blog to be like theirs. Or maybe I just want to be more like them.
I have the life I wanted, right! But who says you have to stop at that?
I was explaining this the other day to a friend who is going through a tough patch. That on the surface I have “the good life” but what I’m striving for is “the best life I can have”.Â
[I’ll pause here for all those of my nearest and dearest who are about now rolling their eyes back in that knowing way. Smiling a rye smile and thinking she hasn’t changed at all!]
So what am I really saying here?
That I’m tidying up my blog so not just the storytelling improves but I can keep myself focused towards my goals this year. My new Daily Snap postings is a way of forcing me to practice my photography. I’m aiming to change the banner every month just so is less boring and is a way I can show off some of my favourite photographs. I’ll also document my monthly photography projects I’ve promised myself I’ll do to try something new over the year, instead of playing chicken and sticking to what I know.
Over time you’ll see the side bars change to be more subject specific. For example, when you read a Domesticity post you’ll be able to see the links to my favourite foodie blogs, recipe sites and other food related information I find of interest.
The same will be for a my spruced up Backyard Pantry section that will chronicle my growing adventure to fill our pantry. Like the photography there is so much I have to learn about growing fruit and vegetables and the trial and error approach is going to be fun.
You can be sure that my madcap bassets will continue to entertain. That’s if I can get them off their blanket on the sofa for a few minutes.
And if all that wasn’t enough I’m sure there will be 1001 things I’ll say on Twitter which is a perfectly free and fun way of saying exactly what’s on my mind. That’s if his Lordship doesn’t get in there first with his micro blogging habit.
There are some I know who think that I am the strange one and the blogosphere is a foreign land. But I don’t think that they are regular readers of Domestic Executive.
The regulars tell me what they think, share their thoughts and give me heaps of encouragement and support. For that I am most grateful. Seeing a comment pop up in my in box really does brighten my day. And on that note, I have fellow bloggers I need to visit now I have worked out what the heck is going on with my own blog.
And now you know what happens when you have 1001 things to say!
Blog is fine don’t make changes for the sake of change. Remember your readers get used to the layout (or shall I say personally ones of an older disposition).
The thought of even better photos on here! They are wonderful to start with 🙂
And well done on 1001 posts – thast one amazing number. Im beginningto think that tinkering with blogs is just part of the process – I know I cant quite help myself sometimes. I find interesting widgets and just cant wait to see what it looks like.
Hx
I’m with your Dad. But I do have to say that your blog does look very professional, it must take a lot of time to set it up. With our broadband being so slow that it’s on the verge of not being viable it takes long enough for me to throw up some photos and add a bit of text. 1001 is a serious amount of posts, have you thought about printing them off into a hard copy record? I did press the print button once at work and got an embarrasing amount of pages but I understand there are sites that will format them properly. I’m still working on my plan of making a photo book of my favourite photos from last year simply for my own enjoyment.
Here’s looking forward to the next 1001!
I am in awe of your design layout as it is and forever ‘wowing’ over your photographs. I would love to spend some time tinkering on the design of our blog, but never get round to it. Sorry I haven’t dropped by in a few weeks – but I have been thinking of you – especially when we drove through your ‘neck of the woods’ over the weekend. Having a really special time with my folks over here, but will be checking in to catch up more on your posts when time allows.
