You’ll see from yesterday’s post that I love a wedding. If I could have another career I’d be a wedding dress designer. Or maybe a stationery guru or perhaps a florist. You see I really do love a wedding.
Now, I hope you can understand that to miss a family wedding is a tough deal for me. To miss two is hardly bearable but that’s what I’ve had to do this year.
A few weeks before my brother-in-law’s wedding, Martin’s cousin was married. She was my youngest bridesmaid when I got married so it would have been fun to see how she fared now she’s all grown up. Most of all whether she’d manage to not drop food down her dress. You see this young lady managed to get covered her beautiful bridesmaid’s dress with chocolate. It was a wonderful contrast to the cream cotton satin dress. But, she’ll all grown up she couldn’t possibly get up to any trouble on her own wedding day?
I think that you can tell from these photos that much fun was had by all. S, looked a picture in her frock and not a speck of chocolate in sight!
I wish I’d been there for the speeches, I understand the best man surpassed himself with inappropriate jokes. I hope that Nana and Grandad weren’t listening. Having said that I’m sure that if I had been there Grandad Sam and I would be chuckling away in the corner and getting dirty looks from Nana!
It looks like the dancing was entertaining too. The bride’s father seems to have surpassed himself. Groovy moves Uncle J. I am a little concerned though as your wife seems to be looking at her watch in one of these pictures. I couldn’t blame her, she was probably looking for an excuse to get you off the dance floor!
This event was definitely a family affair with S’s cousins dressed in their finery as ushers. There is another photograph of these boys that I couldn’t possibly post on the grounds that this blog doesn’t condone nudity. Boys will be boys and want to show off what’s under their kilts. Affectionately known as the Darlos this crew are usually to be found making mischief. So surprising given their responsible and sensible parents – well their mother at least!
There is one good thing about not being at the wedding. I can have some fun with the photos and make up stories of what’s going on from probably completely unrelated shots. I am however convinced that the next pictures do show the bride is definitely up to no good and causing much chatter within the family.

Mother of the Bride and Auntie in rather fetching headgear clearly spotted something that wasn’t right

Auntie sent to tackle bride. Or maybe she’s checking that spot on the front of S’s dress isn’t chocolate!

The cousins are telling tales (or perhaps explaining the drama) to Nana and Grandad
Bottom right:
Bride has some explaining to do to Nana. I can tell Grandad is amused by it all!
Having had a bit of fun it’s fair to say that this was a wedding with lots of laughter, fun and love. Congratulations S & S. Wish I could have been there too.
Oh, and hope the wedding present arrives eventually even if it seems to have gone astray. Typical NZ post and Royal Mail!
Brilliant! That looks like a VERY fun wedding and can imagine the laughter and dancing. The bride and groom look absolutely stunning. What great photographs of a fabulous looking day. Best wishes xx
Hi Julie!
Doesn’t the world seem to get smaller everyday with the Internet?! We teach at that very school in Jumeirah, and it will remain on that property for one more year. A new campus is being built in Al Barsha (the construction zone we call home) out towards Jebel Ali. I’m sad to report nearly all of the villas surrounded the school have been- or are currently being- leveled. It is so unfortunate, as it was really the last peaceful sliver of suburbia in Dubai (unless you count the gated communities filled with towering mansions!). I lived here in the early 80’s for a few years and hardly recognized a thing when I returned. Our old villas are still standing (set to be leveled next year) and some of our friends live in the same complex, so it was fun to wander around and reminisce. Sharjah has grown a lot too, though not at the rate or scale of Dubai. The blue souk is still the same, which I love! Early on in our blog I have more pictures around the city, school campus, souks, etc. if you are interested. Thank you for the kind comments regarding the photos… its becoming a fast passion of mine=). So good to hear from you and I’ll look forward to keeping in touch!
