I turned around and there is was like a blanket giving comfort.  Layers of weather on the layers of countryside.  Just as well I had plenty of layers on as the southerly was blowing and I was wet.  But wet is nothing compared to what residents of Christchurch have been enduring since the earthquake hit almost a week ago. Seeing the impact of nature on this historic town has been a real eye opener to the power of nature but also the strength of community and Government as everyone pulls together to make things safe and help get people back on their feet as soon as possible.  For all the tales of aftershock nerves I once again count my blessings and admire the kiwi spirit to make do, even when the going gets really tough.
