There is no Shakespearean tragedy when it comes to the Othello Rose.  It is instead big, bold and blousey in a romantic sort of way.  The flowers are large, a handful in fact.  Just the right size to cup and gently hold whilst you give is a good sniff.  I wasn’t sure whether I’d like the Old English roses when they were planted as I thought they might be a little too soft for my architectural plant liking.  I am however seriously impressed how big and bold they are and flowering profusely giving us a wonderfully colourful outlook. I’m so impressed I’m already planning more rose adventures elsewhere in the garden for next year.  A few rambling roses perhaps up the back veranda or over a pergola down the side steps.  Only the small matter of having a pergola to ramble your roses on to fix first!
