After the earthquake all I wanted was a cup of strong tea.  My Good Samaritan and I scoured Christchurch goodwill centres for some hot water but alas we had to wait 24hours before that urge could be satisfied.  We were looking for that calming yet thirst quenching relief to wash away the dust in the throat and help clear the mind. I can tell you a cup of tea at home never tasted so good.

Last week I was in search of liquid sustenance to keep my mind alert.  Coaching is a taxing business on one’s brain.  My preferred tipple is a Mojo coffee – Wellington’s finest – with a side order of this rather splendid Nougat.  Since the rain was coming down today I decided to experiment and try and make my own nougat using a recipe that landed in my email box from Mind Food a rather splendid magazine I’ve recently taken to reading.

Now you don’t have to look too closely to notice that mine is not quite as it should be.  My syrup did not stay clear but went the colour of honey.  I battled on regardless and managed to wrestle the nougat into the tin.  Hot sticky nougat takes some handling I can tell you.  It may not look quite as appetising but don’t let those looks deceive you.  This nougat is as comforting and moreish as you might buy.

I’m not giving up after one attempt.  I am determined to be able to sit at home with my home brewed Mojo coffee and nougat during those long days of coaching from my home office.   It will be a true Domestic Executive luxury.
