We knew it was on its way. Rain and wind that is. But sometimes a weather forecast can’t do justice to what happens in reality. As a Brit, I just can’t help myself talking about the weather but more than than when you live in the country it matters more.
Also if you’ve got piles of soil lying around ready to remedy the lawn that never grew and two basset hounds who love to play in said piles of soil you start to take a real interest in how wet things are going to be.
It turns out my continuous references to rain are well justified as we’ve had almost 2metres of rain this year which was more than we had in the whole of last year. In the last 24 hours we had the most rain all year, 108mm.
Now I know you’re dying to know what was going on at 0400 today that caused the whole neighbourhood to wake up. This graph shows what I mean.
Anyway, the long and short of it is that it was wet, windy and wild. I spent most of the morning squelching my way around Wellington. The chooks spend most of the time peering outside of their house and the dogs – well they just carried on bringing the mud in the house. Typical. And we have important visitors tomorrow who we need to be spick and span for. Oh well!
This won’t do my plants any good
Can you see the paw marks?
Never mind paw marks in the mud. What about paw marks on your carpets ?
It’s sort of interesting to think we’re sharing the same weather, half a world away.
But for you it will get warmer, for us – just a grey winter to look forward to.
I love the rain; the rainy season has started here, it’s going to rain till sometime in May. I couldn’t see your pictures, I think flickr is down. Summer is coming for you, take heart, your rain will end soon.
