Many moons ago I was a competitive long jumper.  I can still remember clearly now the thrill of the sprint run up and then launching myself into a sand pit. Despite my aspirations club and country athletics was about my limit although I did win the Independent Schools Long Jump National Championship when I was about 15 so perhaps that might count for national success.

The thing about being a long jumper is that you have to be fast and strong.  Speed gives you the propulsion to launch yourself and you need strength to take off high enough to achieve long distances.  Oh how I wish I had both speed and strength right now.

Honey and butter

Instead I’m floundering with a list of things as long as my arm and tiredness has set in.  What is it about needing to get finished up in order that you can take a break?  The more I try to do the less I realise I’m going to achieve.  It’s time for self preservation to kick in.  I knew things were getting tough when I rustled up some banana muffins using my new Domestic Goddess recipes.

All very simple.  Honey and butter to warm.  Add vanilla essence and mashed bananas.  Actually it said use very ripe bananas so I used I’d being carrying around in my handbag for a few days – it was beautifully bruised.

Then add the flour, baking powder and soda and a pinch of salt.  Not to mention the spices.

Dry ingredients

Mix it all up (not too much stirring, muffins don’t like that) and pop it into the muffin tin.

I set the timer and left them in the capable hands of MT.  He did exactly as was told.  Took them out of the oven at the requisite time.  No problem.

It’s just the muffins didn’t rise to the occasion.  They tasted OK, not great, and were a little rubbery. And just as I was to take a photo to complete the food blogging assignment my camera battery went dead.  And then the muffins got eaten some more until there was no more muffin to snap.

I’ve set myself a goal of completing all my work related work by close of play tomorrow.  That way I’ll have enough time to run around like a lunatic to get everything else finished.

In years gone by I would have found some extra energy, extra umph to see me through the last efforts taking a break.  Somehow I can’t summon anything extra from anywhere.  I’ve tried the high energy food stuffs (banana muffins!) but no I think I’m going to have to slash my to do list aspirations.

I just hope this is tiredness and nothing more sinister as I’d like to enjoy my holiday being fully fit.
