Here’s a view I see daily on my commuter run.  It’s the view from the Maymourn station.  You get some amazing mists across the valley but the purpose of this picture is to show you more of the storm damage.

Now look close.  On the top of the hill, a pink haze half way along.  See it.  Good.

That pink haze was about twice the height before 29 July when the big storms came.  It’s a house being built and was two stories high but after the storm blew through it was only a ground level.  The winds whipped away the framing for the other two stories.

Can you imagine it, having your house blown away.  I can’t bear to think how bad I would have felt had that happened to us when we were building our dream home.  Still, a couple of weeks later and the build looks back under way with new framing going up.  Very pink it is.  Must be a girl’s house!

Here’s a few closer shots.

Looks like they’re having some big windows.  Just as well the views from up on top of that hill will be awesome.

Closer to the ground there’s still plenty of storm clean up going on.  Fortnum and Mason were making a close inspection of some trees at Tunnel Gulley where we went walking and got very very wet today.  I’m pretty impressed how quickly the authorities (and it seems builders) have swung into clean up mode.

Anyone need a few logs, there’s plenty on the go here in New Zealand!
