I think it’s fair to say that almost 8 weeks after summer officially started that I can declare summer here. I know this because the cicadas are chirping, a sure fire sign that at last New Zealand has reached it’s summer weather pattern. It’s bang on time, around the third week in January.
These pictures were taken a week ago by my father-in-law on one of the basset summer walks. I think they reflect summer so far and they remind me of the great times we had when they were here.
Sometimes the bassets can be a delight to walk. A nice summer evening with the sun peaking through the forestry the perfect occasion.
And sometimes they just like to sit a while and take in the sights and sounds of summer.
But sometimes sitting can turn into something else altogther more frustrating.
Yes, bassets can sometimes drop anchor. Just lie down wherever they are and refuse to budge. This is more often than not for no other reason that they just can’t be bothered. Too hot, too cold, too bored and altogether too basset like.
By now my in-laws will be back in the UK where it’s much colder and wetter I am sure. Although we miss their company dreadfully we do at least have the rest of the summer to look forward to. Perfect time for Domestic Executive chores!
Pleased to see that Sheila is now a dog walker – Jet and Millie are just round the corner from home and are always excited to go for a walk! However, it would probably be a case of the dogs taking Sheila and not vice versa!
A bit like the bassets June, they can pull when they are in a hurry or overly excited. I’m sure she might step into the breach from time to time for Millie and Jet. JT
Ha ha that is funny! I love the way they just stop. Denver doesnt just stop like that, or calm down in fact either, he is still a crazy kid! xx
Ha ha ha
walk – sit -nap
My pugs don’t like to walk neither.
It’s damn hot in Thailand.
They walk and sit.
But they never laid down like those handsome did.
