At last some real rain.  And, so conveniently arrived overnight.  The best kind of rain if you ask me.  My red cabbages were so happy they grew a few centimetres and were positively smiling at me this morning.

At last some water for the garden which has left everything bright and bushy.  I was really starting to worry that we’d end up with drought conditions and we’ve only just officially started summer which began on 1 December.

Don’t look too close at the weeds that have also benefited from an overnight watering but take a look at the vegetable patch which is looking more like a kitchen garden patch every day.

The basil seeds I’ve sown are starting to come through and I spotted a few lettuce leaves too.  I thought they weren’t going to perform but seemingly I just needed to be a bit more patient.

Away from vegetable growing the flowers in the garden were positively shining this morning too.  Check this out.  The Leptospermum crimson glory has a profusion of flowers that are velvety – they look almost like a crushed velvet fabric.

Here it is again against the Renga Renga Lillies which were bolt upright since the rain came.

I see little basset is getting in on this floral photo blogging – he’s such a poser don’t you think!

Come to think of this.  Let’s take a short detour and see what he was up to last night avoiding all temptations to go to bed.

Yup, he parked himself on the sofa, found a chin resting place and then was determined that no snacks or other enticements were going to get him to take up his rightful place tucked up in bed.  After all why would you want to lie on a hard dog bed with a wool sack for bedding when you can lounge around on the sofa where it’s soft and warm and most importantly far away from your snoring brother.

Ophs, I digress.

The potato vine continues to flower.

The wild foxgloves are doing so well too.

Looking down the valley here are some more raindrops on they way.  This is fine, especially if it rains more overnight.  But, without exception it must stop on Friday as we have visitors coming from the UK and they so want warm and dry weather to make up for the miserable cold and wet experience they have had of late there.

It’s a relief to get the rain.  What sort of weather are you wishing for?
