It’s been a rotton day weatherwise and this doesn’t make for a happy Domestic Executive household. A southerly front has blown in and has brought the clouds down in our valley and brought with it persistent rain since the middle of the night.
Because we’re reliant on tank water rain is always a good thing. But I’m beginning to think enough is enough. Our tank is full, our drainage channels are flowing and our ground is waterlogged. Enough is enough I think.
All this rain shouldn’t come as a surprise as we do get an average annual rainfall of around 2m here in Kaitoke. It’s no coincidence that the main Wellington region water resevoirs are around the corner! I just wish perhaps it would stay away long enough to get the dogs out for a run around and allow the chickens to get a few pecks from the long grass. Not to mention being able to get out and rescue some of our trees which are not quite tied down yet to their stakes.
If you think I’m being bitter about the weather, you’re right. It’s making me darn cranky as us outdoors types need to get their daily dose of outdoors! Also, we were due to have our good friend up from Wellington but severe weather warnings in the city make it a bit risky for her to be driving out.
The good news is the weather forecast gets better tomorrow and then usually the pattern is we’ll have a few fine days before the weather sets in again just in time for next weekend!
Yes, our lawn is waterlogged!
Yes, that’s mist and rain down the valley!
Yes, that’s a moment of white out!
Yes, that’s the drive waterlogged too!
Water water everywhere ah shame the doggies must be absolutely fed up not being able to take you for a walk
If it makes you feel any better, I went walking with a friend today in Lincolnshire. We started out in bright blue sky and sunshine, but my friend’s husband had to come and rescue us in the car after about 9 miles because the heavens opened and we were caught in torrential downpour. We were literally soaked to the skin!
Come on….you are English!! You can deal with a bit of rain….well a LOT of rain!
Does look pretty nasty though, its been raining all day today too I hope it’s not got any worse? xx
I always said we never came to New Zealand for the weather but like a true Brit I can’t resist complaining. It wouldn’t be fun otherwise!
Marissa – Can imagine that the Hutt River down your way must have been a raging torrent over the last few days!
Sarah – call yourself a tramper? What would have you done on the Milford Track if it had rained. Seems that you’ve gone soft now you’ve gone home to Yorkshire!
Eveline – Fed up is an understatement. These pampered pooches get very temprimental when their routine is upset. Also they hate getting their paws wet!
