“Take a photograph every day” is a common tip to improving your photography.  This is something I’ve rather got out of the habit of recently but want to become more dedicated about.  That and develop a stronger photographic style.  To do this I need to get out more.  And I mean out.

Away from the homestead to other places where I can get more creative inspiration.  But this is falling into the same space as I need to dust off my golf clubs.  Oh so many things I’d like to do.  I could of course pack the camera in the golf back and I’d crack both requirements in one.  Get out to somewhere new and knock a few balls around.

In the absence of such lateral thinking I did snap a few shots on one of our basset walks this week and it reminded me how much fun photography can be.  Hunting the light in the dark bush and seeing what it might expose.  If I were truly dedicated to my craft I’d be noting the best spots for future reference.  Instead I tend to amble along and see what pops up.

The blue sky backdrop was heart warming and reminded me that outside the deep dark bush there was a moment of summer waiting for me.

But when the light shines into the bush it creates an atmosphere that is cooling and calming.

And sometimes the light creates a spotlight which heralds something else.

Or maybe several spotlights

Away from the bush walk I did follow my photograph every day tip and dash away from the washing up to capture the moody sunset which is pretty typical of this summer of cloud.

Perhaps it is my moodiness about being short changed this summer that’s eroded my photographic mojo.  Perhaps I just need to master the art of photographing in the dark and gloom of cloudy days.  Then I’d definitely be able to practice every day!
