It’s always good to be careful what you wish for.  You never know it might get you if you don’t.  Certainly these past few days we’ve been reaping the results of my wish.

And, it’s not been universally welcomed in our household.

Yes folks it’s rained.  The sort of rain that keeps you awake as it batters on the iron roof.  It’s also the sort of rain that:

  • fills up the water tank (yeh, bath time at last!)
  • waters the grass (yeh, my grass seed is finally getting a chance!)
  • makes your vegetables grow (yeh, we might get some crops before Easter!).

And, hmmmm.  It:

  • makes basset hounds cranky (real cranky)
  • stops us thistle harvesting (the blighters are growing even more)
  • restricts dog walking to between showers (making them even more cranky)
  • makes for a difficult trip to the supermarket (a few wash for every shopping bag)
  • makes for a cold southerly to arrive (making it chilly enough for the heating to go back on!).

We had 75mm of rain in three days.  That’s a lot of rain I can tell you.  But, in truth I’m not complaining as it’s been wonderful to see the green come back to life around.

The bassets really weren’t happy.  Here’s what they resorted to doing to cheer themselves up.

Now do they look happy bassets?  I think not.  Mason is however not camera shy and comes for a closer look!

The hallway is not quite the same as being able to run around outdoors but it has to do.

Here’s Fortnum coming in to nab the sausage toy off Mason.

blank

Well, maybe not!  He is a determined little basset where toys are concerned.

blank

Nope, he’s definitely not going to share!

This is the sort of look Fortnum has been giving since the rain started.

He wasn’t even cheered up when the christmas tree arrived.  Yes, we decided to have a tree!

Not even when we started decorating did this basset cheer up!

The sun was shining at least at this point and it was time to get these basset boys out for a walk.  Something they’d been waiting for all day.  Who could blame them.  There is only so much rain the garden needs!
