The perfectionist in me is being pushed to the limits. I’ve got my in-laws coming and I’m just not ready. I’ve kept saying to myself – “it’s only B&S, they’re family, they’ll take us as they find us.”
So why is it that I keep looking at the windows I’ve cleaned and thinking I could do better. Why is it that my to do list is longer now than when I started. And why, oh why, whyyyyyyyyy haven’t I finished all the ironing.
Because I’ve been working. I’ve had to make a mercy mission to spend an hour at the lawyers signing a mountain of papers for my best friend.
To keep the lid on my perfectionist stress I just shut the door and went walking with the dogs. It’s all you need as an antidote to the stupid pressures that I put on myself.
Bassets just don’t do stress – well unless you are being chased by the vacuum cleaner or mower tractor. Or the wheel barrow. Or indeed anything that moves on wheels and makes a noise. It’s hardly surprising because when you come down to basset level there is lots of interesting things to sniff and see.
That’s not to say that when I open the door again the chores are done or the work deadlines met. It’s just that having that small antidote gives you better perspective on it all. Much better than a squashy stress ball that just gives me RSI from squeezing it too much!
What’s your antidote to stress?
CHOCOLATE , no really I’m with you, a walk by the fields or better still out on the cliffs. Just sitting and watching the waves and the wildlife is the ultimate.
PS a colleague of mine had people coming to view her house so she piled all the clothes waiting to be ironed into the back of her car and they went backwards and forwards to work for a few days.
You don’t want to know mine! I love that your bassets keep reminding you to take it easy – or perhaps wish you could come back as one in another life! Sarah x
Love that photo Julie, it’s lovely. You really do push yourself sometimes, you should be taking it easy, I can only imagine the run up to Christmas will be a busy one for you, have F&M made their Santa lists??
My antidote is alcohol. I actually wish it wasnt and that I had more time to do some relaxation or go for a gentle stroll. You have seen Denver walking and it’s far from relaxing. So yeah, unscrew, pour, relax.
