The prospect of doing my tax return gave me all the excuse I needed to rug up and venture out to the garden.  Overall it’s not a pretty sight.  Wind battered, ground soaked to overflowing and trees shaken bare in the gale winds. The regular autumn clear up is more pressing than ever.  But the ambient temperature is going to have to raise a few degrees for me to spend more than a few minutes making a cursory inspection.

Tucked away in the corner is one bright spot.  A burning bright phormium aptly named “jester” since it’s keeping so amused during one of the worst climatic episodes in a while.

It’s not so amusing for Big Basset though who yesterday had a day of play with his mates at Day Care yesterday and today has been suffering the consequences.  I’m trying not to fear the worst effects of cold on his arthritis but I did spend a bit of time today researching dog overcoats and the latest crazy in leg warmers that might do him quite nicely.
