They say that you live and learn. I must have skipped a lesson somewhere. For every year I find myself salvaging the small potager garden designed by the back door for growing herbs and salads. Like last year I’ve been digging out the weeds that have accumulated over the winter but it’s the last time as I’ve thrown caution to the wind and redesigned the patch to put in a proper path. This should at least mean all weather gardening – in theory at least!
So with the help of my mathematician magician we’ve created an outer bed and a smaller central bed. Construction is still underway but should be finished by the weekend complete with new compost and stepping stones to get into the inner sanctum. Although experimentation has been a good thing, giving me the confidence to grow our own food the back breaking digging each year has taken the shine off the fun. But with all that about to change I’m really looking forward to this year’s food production with lots of seeds sprouting in the barn in readiness for the chills and frosts to disappear.
Now all I need is to teach my husband the difference between parsley and coriander, mint and sage and he’ll be able to go fetch his own herbs for his culinary extravaganzas at the weekend.

I hear ya!!!
I ask my hubby to get me some herbs from the garden – Ive got an even chance of getting something edible or a weed 🙂
Still, one day I will have a proper laid herb garden. The plans are all there – just need some money for materials and time.
