I swear there is no dog like a basset hound for lounging around in an out of control way.  In fact, I defy anyone to find another breed of dog that has such a depth of comic character.  Basset hounds should come with a label which declares “guaranteed to make you smile”.

Everyone loves a basset hound which is why they are chosen by advertisers to promote products.  The Hush Puppy shoe people had it right – not the most attractive shoes in the world but they have class and character. Oh, and they are exeedingly comfy!

I’m mean, look at Fortnum in the slightly out of focus picture at the top of this post.  He was slumped over a log on a walk last week.  He just decided he liked the damp, dank conditions in the bush and he was going to stay there.  The log was just the right height for leaning his chin on and he thought, this will be a cute pose for her blog so I’ll give her a chance to take a decent picture of me.  Hmm, despite my best efforts trying to take pictues whilst wrestling with little basset on the other lead resulted in a slightly fuzzy picture but I think it proves my point.  What other dogs would want to flop down in a middle of a walk just to lie and see if they look cute?

Talking about little basset, here’s Mason at the weekend.  Flat out with no shame or dignity or indeed thought for comfort.  He must have thought ah, sun shining best to let my belly hang out.  Chances are she’ll rub it for me or at least take my picture for her blog.

Looking at this picture, I suspect that the short legs of a basset mean it can balance it’s paws on it’s chest and let it’s back legs hang out in ways that other dogs can’t.  Cute eh? Even if they flip over onto their side.  There are always bits hanging all over that make them look all snuggled up on the ground.

Close up the face is actually gross but attractive in a weird and distorted sort of way!  Do you think he might actually eat that stone he’s got at his mouth?

Look it’s genetic, Fortnum’s at it too.  Letting it all hang out.

They may lie in a messy way but at least there is a symmetrical formation in their pairing.

Ahh, I couldn’t resist saying a closer hello to Fortnum.  He is however doing that “yeah, what I’m snoozing look, whadya want?”

Mason, however, leaps to his feet in search of a neck rub, or two!  Cute eh?

Here he is again, looking for more attention. How can you resist?  His big paws, the way he tucks his legs under his bottom.  His foxy little pointy head.

But when intensive neck rubbing wasn’t forthcoming he’s off for more mischief.

Even his crooked tail makes me smile!

I’m afraid there is no standard pose for a basset other than any possible way they can look cute and charming to attract some attention and preferably a bit of belly or neck rubbing.  Phewey these dogs are demanding.  But I love em!  Can you tell?  Thought you might!
