In the last few days the bassets have had their routine knocked all out of sync.  First I abandoned them for two days to go to work and then it rained.  It rained a lot.  This is not a basset’s favourite thing.

There was a small break in the weather over the weekend so I snuck out for some basset stalking with my camera.  For the first time in a long time I was able to capture a few snaps of Mason before he turned towards me to lick my face.

Yes, Little Basset has a habit of seeing you crouched at his level as an excuse to get close up and personal in a way you’d probably rather he didn’t.

Little Basset - Mason

Here he’s looking a little pensive.  Those wrinkles are definitely showing some thought process going on.  Wonder what he’s thinking?

Here he was moments before.  I love the look on his face.  He’s eyeballed me.  You can see what he’s thinking here.  “What’s she doing – better go and investigate!”

Mason surprised

Or may be not, might be good just to stay here sniffing. I like this contrast in this shot – the background of the hills, the closeness to the grass and the way he is just sniffing over the brow of the infinity lawn.

Mason sniffing

It didn’t take little basset long to give up and come and see me.  Licking his lips in readiness for the big kiss he’s going to give me, the camera indeed anything he can reach when he jumps up on top and attacks you with love.

Mason licking

He may not be a poser when it comes to photoblogging but  is indeed a real charmer.  He loves to love.  Loves attention and loves a long neck rub so his back leg shakes up and down in that ever so slightly pervy way.

He’s our favourite little basset.

Here’s 10 things you need to know to truly love little basset:

  1. Those wrinkles and long ears camouflage a depth of intellect – this is a smart dog
  2. His favourite food is chicken necks – the type from the supermarket not the ones in the garden
  3. His most hated thing is having his nails cut or having a bath
  4. When he rolls in unspeakable things it’s only because he wants to share the attractive smell with you
  5. He loves to put his head on you leg, lap or indeed anywhere that can mean he stretches out full length at one level to have a snooze
  6. He can leap on the sofa and into the car in one bounce when he wants to
  7. His favourite snoozing spot is on the sofa in Domestic Executive HQ
  8. Little basset is always first to bed – that way he makes sure he gets the best bedtime snacks
  9. He is an agile basset able to run rings around his brother when it comes to running and playing
  10. He will lick you to death if you let him.

Don’t you just love him!
