We had another really wild night of storms last night.  Lashing rain, gale force winds and the biblical proportion rains that usually accompany such weather.  To overcome the misery of continued wet weather I thought I’d fine tune my domestic executive baking skills.

Today we decided upon one of Nigella’s zillion calorie chocolate cakes. 

I’m actually getting more and more into the baking scene with the rain battering on the roof I was looking forward to consoling myself with chocolate.  It seems that the bassets didn’t share my enthusiasm for baking and were decidedly sulking at one point.

It was hardly my fault that it was raining and which meant that if they went outside they were going to get their feet wet.  I tried to get them off the back porch several times but their characteristic basset hound stubbornness kicked in.  Ah well, they were just going to have to be bored.

The chocolate cake was a great success.  I’d say more like a pudding and probably shouldn’t be eaten in large quantities.  It’s the sort of cake you can actually feel the weight growing on your hips with each mouthful.

Yes, it’s been a classic basset blogging day.  I thought it might be marginally more interesting for bloggers than to see me cleaning the fridge, doing the washing and scratching my head over how to tweak my blog site.

Don’t be fooled by their cuteness though, these boys are demons.
