Despite spoiling the bassets rotten they are suffering the winter blues.  Can’t blame them really since we’ve had a succession of icy blasts cold enough for me to don gloves and my possum fur lined deerhunter hat that keeps my ears warm.    Our resident indoor dog Little Basset is of course relishing the opportunity to stay indoors, preferably slouched in front of the fire, whereas Big Basset gets increasingly miserable and determined to drive me crazy with his incessant whining to be out. Then in. Then out. Or best of all to stand in the doorway and sniff the breeze and let all the cold air in.

Life for a basset becomes almost intolerable when they can’t get out for a walk. There are few days when we don’t get out but we’ve had a few of those recently giving the bassets the blues.  Even though I might rug up and put on my waterproofs when a basset refuses to get off the veranda you know that the weather is just too bad.

But we are in winter so we really can’t mind too much.  Although I can’t help but long for winter to jump start to Spring.
