In case you’re wondering this picture captures 2008 for my colleagues and I. We had to bring an item to our Christmas lunch that best sums up our year. Can you tell what I took?
I can’t believe that there is so much balance and harmony in what we all brought – spooky or synergy? All of us have had very different focus, different personal goals, different happenings but somehow when we summed it all up we ended up with a pile of objects that were different but together looked right together. And that is just how it is for real.
We are six individuals that fit together well. The nature of our work is that we mostly work independently of each other but when we do work together it’s a powerful thing. We have no hesitation in passing the baton of client work between each of us. We know that each of us will deliver what people expect of us as a firm regardless of our own particular style and talents. It’s a truly cool thing and I do feel lucky to be part of this team.
So here’s the motley crew (left to right) me, JB (with Cosmo), Andrea, Nick, Elva and Pip.
This picture was half way around out Mount Kaukau challenge under the able leadership of JB. We were able to see some of the best views of Wellington and test out muscles and stamina in the process.
Here’s Andrea being on top of the world! And, below JB is being masterful as our guide to the Wellington landscapes.
And the views were really fantastic. It was one of those “You can’t beat Wellington Days”. Here’s the view towards the South Island.
And over the City
Here are the leaders heading off to the summit – I’m being a back marker. Purely for photographic purposes!
Phew, here’s a chance to sit for a moment or two.
To be fair there were some pretty awesome rest/viewing points along the way.
What a team eh – raring to go.
This fabulous walk was only surpassed by lunch at Wellington’s swankiest restaurant. Suffice to say that a good time was had by all – great food, great wine and most of all great company. We had no problem achieving our goal for the day.
To head home with a silly wide grin on our faces!
Amazing views, I escpecially like the one looking towards South Island. It’s so good when you get on with your work colleagues. I’m very lucky that the staff at school are caring and supportive and apart from one person who uses ‘I speak my mind’ as an excuse for being rude, we all get on very well. Pete works in a totally different environment where nepotism rules and people work under such pressure that they take out their stress on anyone around. He can always tell when he goes to a GP’s Practice if the GPs are b******s because all the staff are stressed and unco-operative. It’s such a shame when it’s like that but there other practices where the staff are much nicer and at least it’s a job which in this economic climate is something to be very thankful for.
Excellent!! Looks like a gorgeous day! That is such a brilliant idea to bring something that sums up the year, I must use that idea!! Looks like you had fun, lovely day for it and the views are as gorgeous as ever xx
I know I am lucky to have such great work colleagues. We actually hardly ever get all together with phone catch ups the general means. We are all lifestylers in one way or another and focus on getting the work done in order to get back to our non work interests quickly. I have been so lucky to land on my feet as other people I know are really struggling as sole trader consultants and coaches. The squeeze on Government spending and the wider economy is starting to pinch. We, however, are still busy and plenty of work on the books.
Oh wow! I LOVE that walk! Looks like you had a fabulous time and the photographs are absolutely spectacular. I must make it a mission to get my girls up there over these summer holidays (with hubbies help and lots of food!). Wonder if the girls will be brave enough to step into the weta cave on the way up! Lovely way to spend a get together as the year draws to a close. Sarah x
I’d definitely recommend it Sarah. It is awesome. If you take your time and perhaps take turn piggy backing the girls you’ll have a wonderful time!
Have to add, I have done that walk a couple of times – but only once with a child in tow – and that was when Charli was 9 month’s old and not too heavy in a back pack! I’ve been avoiding major walks up hills for a while, until the girls legs were strong enough to do most of the walking… but I’ve had them in training up our local hill where we live and think, with lots of sweets as bribes, and a bit of friendly competition between them, we’ll get to the top without too many piggy backs (I hope!). xxx
