When I was a kid and ill I always remember spending hours watching the test card on the TV.  In fact, I’m not sure it was compulsory to be ill.   But just to have it on was a sign that the TV would eventually burst into broadcasting life and make my world a happier place to be.

Now there is no such problem.  With the almost limitless choices of programmes now available on satellite/cable TV the sick bed experience has the potential for turning your eyes square.  That’s what my parents used to tell me would happen if I watched the test card for much longer.

Nowadays is not just the broadcast TV you have to entertain you.  There are DVDs so you can watch the re-runs of your favourite programmes and movies.  The Internet is a whole bigger galaxy of audio visual delight to keep you amused until the pain recedes and you can once again face the world.

I’m still coughing like crazy and a full nights sleep would be good but in truth I’ve reached that sick but not that sick stage.  Therefore it felt rather out of line to be indulging myself of such entertainment delights.

OK, the Internet thing  was something I indulged in but only in the quest for information, ideas and knowledge.  I may have watched a couple of episodes of SitC – final season.  But overall I’ve done productive things like colour code my to do list, empty my filing tray and reviewed the category allocation on my blog posts. These are all mind numbingly boring things to do but nevertheless been sitting on my to do list under the category of improve personal productivity.

When you’re not up to much else there is no excuse really.  Boy, do I feel much better about it too.  I feel ready and able to start back into full harness next week in the knowledge that I’m organised and raring to go.

Can’t wait to get out this weekend with the camera as photography has been limited these past few days.  Fortnum and Mason have even been reluctant models refusing to pose for me as they lounged around in sympathy for me.

Don’t they just look the happiest bassets in the world.
