Bassets seem to surpass themselves when it comes to sleeping.  They have a routine of naps that seems to last from breakfast to dinner time. When things got really quiet on Sunday morning I was not surprise to find Fortnum comatose on the sofa illegally  breaking house rules about bassets not on sofa without supervision and located on a carefully placed blanket.

As if that wasn’t enough Big Basset bagged himself a silk cushion to rest his head on.This is one dog that knows how to make himself comfortable. He looked adorable – fast asleep with his tail tucked under for protection.  I can tell he was asleep as his face was all wrinkles and jowls.

There is something comforting about a basset asleep – safe and secure.  Not a care in the world.  Little basset has the same idea making it impossible to sit on the sofa even if I’d wanted to.  Two bassets lying end to end takes up a lot of space.

At least Mason had the decency to lie on top of the blanket – a rare moment of compliance from him.  But don’t be fooled underneath that vision of sleepiness is a hound on guard and raring to go.  Especially if the fridge door were to open and break their moment of slumber.
