Catch me if you can

DSC_7582 150

When days at work prove frustrating I love to delve back into my photo archives and cheer myself up.  I had almost forgotten about this one which I took last Monday when out with the bassets on their new favourite walk.  It’s a place they can run and run.  And when they’ve worn themselves out [...]

Wanting to run away to sea

DSC_8050 150

Had another cancellation today – people are dropping like flies in Wellington to their sick beds.  Wasn’t long enough for a determined photo walk so I hung out for coffee by the waterfront.  The longer I sat the more I wanted to hop on this boat and cruise around the harbour to make the most [...]

Tall and wiry

DSC_7897-150

The weather reader spawned a new descriptor this morning – fine but mild.  I think it’s their way of not saying the sun is going to shine but there’ll be a bitterly cold wind.  The wind chill didn’t keep the bassets and I inside though.  Once I’d cleared the desk we played hookie down at [...]

Last rays of sun give rise to the moon

On Friday I watched as the last of the sunlight glimmered on our neighbours new fence.  Seconds later I was distracted by the moon that came into shot.  I couldn’t help but think in a few more days and it will shine in all its full glory so we’ll be well and truly moonstruck.  If [...]

Basset at rest

Basset at rest

There is nothing cuter than Big Basset at rest.  He curls up in a ball nose to tail. With his big ear hanging over the side he looked ever more peaceful and dare I say cuter!  The fact he was sitting illegally on a piece of furniture was overlooked on this occasion but won’t be [...]

A book to inspire

julia-childs-100

The day after I arrived in Wellington I comforted myself by buying a book and was captivated by the story of Julie and Julia.  It was this book that started me on the road to reading blogs and then to starting my own.  Since then this book has been made into a movie which I [...]

Homeward bound

trainspotting-150

Seeing the big loco roll into our little country station is a sight to behold.  This monster engine pulls a regular train behind it but takes 40 minutes to climb the 40km from Wellington. Most importantly it makes the necessary effort to bring his Lordship home.

Basset in contemplation

DSC_7138 150

It was such a relief today for Little Basset to be signed off by the vet.  Stitches are all out and he was very pleased with how the wound has healed.  He’s going to have a slight kink in his ear but with so many other wrinkles and jowls it won’t be noticeable. This is [...]

Sweet beets

My abiding memory of beetroot as a child was pickled or baked in a white sauce.  Neither of which I was that thrilled with.  Over the years I’ve acquired the taste of beetroot in a wide range of forms which is just as well since it grows easily and has become a regular at our [...]

Last flush of flowers

DSC_7419 150

Bees are working overtime right now making the most of the final flush of flowers in the garden.  But not today.  We’ve had wet wild weather so it just goes to show how much a difference a days makes.
