We have the yin and yang of weather right now.  Bright sunny days and cold frosty nights. The morning frosts are pretty spectacular and none more so at our local golf course at Te Marua. I drive past the course on my commuter run and couldn’t resist stopping for a spot of photo blogging.

I’ve only visited the course once to enquiry about green fees but never actually managed to set foot on it.  It’s strange given that I thought that my life as a Domestic Executive would include opportunity for me to improve my golf handicap. I started playing golf around 5 years ago but haven’t played at all since arriving in New Zealand.  My clubs are sitting in the garage gathering dust and no doubt providing an ideal haven for the mice.

It would be truly wonderful if I did start playing again as it’s a wonderful sport.  I’ve had more laughs on a golf course than probably anywhere else in my life.  This has mostly been me laughing at my awful shots but also enjoying the company of others.  Maybe I should simply get on with dusting off those clubs and get on that course this Spring.

Te Marua Trees

The thing I like most about this course is the vast array of trees.  There usually lots of trees on golf courses but somehow the backdrop of native bush here in New Zealand gives more definition to cultivated trees.

These long view photos show some of the tree specimens with a blanket of frost to increase the contrast in colours.

Zooming in closer on those trees made me feel so much better about my own lawn.  Even the golf course has trouble keeping out the native grass species from the rough areas.

Tree close up

I love the variation in height and shape in this group of trees.

Tree grouping

There are trees of all shapes and sizes.

Contrasting trees

Which have a completely different perspective again when the land form changes.

The wonderful thing about photo editing software is the ability to crop shops to both tidy up photos taken but also create another view.  Here’s one of my favourites of the trees with lots of the clutter cropped away.

Having had a taste of the golf course landscape from the road it’s made me keener to drag out those clubs and find space for my camera in my bag.  That way I can practise my golf and my photography. Perfect!
