My husband’s grandfather turned 90 this week – it’s been another one of those milestones in the life of our family that we miss out on celebrating with them being so far away. To have been there in person to wish Granddad Sam Happy Birthday would have been the greatest thing but the powers of technology meant we did the next best thing. Having enjoyed a week of almost continuous sunshine has lifted our spirits and warded away a bout of blues that can sometimes creep in. Those moments of self pity that you’re missing out on something you’d rather not.
But life is about choices and if you choose to travel to the other side of the world to live your life you’ve got to accept that path is a different one to those people you know and love best. So when I get a spasm of regret I have to push past it rather than wallow in it. I started this blog so those people who are special to us can keep in touch with our everyday lives. So if you’re reading just remember we miss you and love you even more that you are so far away. We appreciate you letting us go and live out our dreams.
We came to New Zealand in search of a good life. And today as I took time out at the end of the day with my camera I started to realise that those dreams are our reality now. It felt good in a bitter sweet sort of way.
We love you too, the sun will soon be shining.
Is that a promise about the sun?!
