I never thought that I’d become transfixed by root vegetables but its hard not to be distracted by the new seasonal crops popping up in the kitchen garden.  It’s a strong signal that it’s time to move towards soups, casseroles and other warming food.  The passing of the seasons also require an enormous amount of effort to clear out the beds of the debris, a hangover from the summer season. It’s been a busy few days outdoors filling up the compost boxes and cleaning up the weeds that seem to have invaded the paths the moment my back was turned.   I’d like to report completion of our winter growing house but it’s turning into a marathon effort of fiddling around which takes three times longer than you expect.  Hopefully we’ll have the darn thing up and operational before it comes to planting next season’s crops.
