Fortnum and Mason, my laugh a minute bassets, are total wimps and scaredy cats at times.  Fortnum in particular has a nervous disposition when it comes to seeing things he’s not familiar with.  One of the funniest things with my comic clowns is their reaction when they see themselves in windows.

All of a sudden there is much barking.  Much snuffling and shuffling in indignation.  Who are you staring at they bark back at their reflection.

In search of some comic capers the other day I opened up the bathroom window to get a better shot of Mason gnawing on his bone.  I was struggling because the fence was in my way.

I know, it’s the simple pleasures that keep me amused!

There is something inherently funny about little basset and a bone that’s almost as big as him

Intrigued by how I was appearing in a new place, Fortnum decided to investigate.

What’s happening?  Isn’t his face a give away of his thoughts.

And that’s where it turned to custard and Fortnum started to get agitated and bark.  For what reason you might be wondering?  Here’s why.

That’s what happens when a basset can see his own reflection in the shower door glass!

I think we may need to get him so therapy or install a mirror by his bed so he can start to get used to the dog he keeps seeing and make friends with him.  I should of course get on and do something more useful than trailing my dogs with a camera and then terrifying them with their own image.
