OK, so where were we?
Ah yes, it was snowing. The neighbours came to celebrate. The All Blacks beat South Africa in the blizzards of Wellington and we went to bed looking forward to a snowball war with Doug and Shilo this morning. So here’s the overnight position.
Hmm, not quite the blanket of snow we were promised! It started raining about midnight and seemed to continue most of the night. I know because I was so excited about the prospect of snow today I hardly slept a wink and then lay in bed listening to the rain on the veranda roof knowing the excitement of the snow was only but a short moment in time.
Still, there was some pretty impressive snow still left in places. Even the gorse waiting to be burned makes a wonderful contrast in this picture.
AT LEAST THE HILLS STAYED SNOW CAPPED
PRETTY BACKDROP TO MY LITTLE RED BARN
With all the excitement of the snow last night it quite exhausted me and the bassets. We did what we do best on these cold nights and hunkered down in front of the fire. This was of course after a protracted fight to find out who got closest to the fire – I’m pleased to say the alpha female leader of the pack won this time, which to be frank makes a change!
Ah, we were hoping for some snow in the hills too and were all set to pile in the car and head up your way! We got plenty of hail on the South Coast – with the girls running in and out, laughing hysterically – even Dan couldn’t help himself – running outside with a bowl to collect some hail for us to ooo and ahhh over! Ah well, we shall have to head up the mountain on school hols to see some real snow!
Soooooo love your fire!
