I played hooky today from work and chores. I even left the bassets to their own devices in the barn and headed off for lunch and an afternoon at the coast. I was visiting a friend who I first met as my coach trainer and then my coach.
She’s an amazing lady who has an insight into life that really chimes with me. Whilst she has huge self awareness she’s practical and a realist. No airy fairy crystals or false cheer-leading, she says what she sees or thinks. Direct is here middle name (not really, but I think you get my point)! Read more

It’s been wild Spring weather this week – lots of rain and lots of wind. Destructive wind that has rendered my washing line inoperable. It was a soul destroying moment to see it collapsed in a heap with my washing trailing on the floor. Not to mention a certain small dog lying in what became a most comfortable spot.
But the weather is good. For the grass. For the trees. In fact for the soul. But that’s another story! Read more

I know I am in danger of boring my readers with my basset antic stories so I thought I’d test out the potential of my new photoshop elements and see if we could make it more interesting for you. So here’s yesterday’s walk recorded in black and white.
I think that black and white photographs bring a depth of character that the full technicolour often doesn’t. It also brings back memories of a time gone by when that was about all you could have. Anyway, here’s some basset photoblogging black and white style for you to enjoy! Read more

I’ve been putting it off and off but it can wait no more. The thistles are growing at a rapid rate and starting to overtake some of the smaller trees in height. It was time to thistle harvest again.
We did this first in May to clear the dead thistles off the top soil mound that was due to be spread around. You can read about that adventure by clicking here. That thistle harvest was an altogether different proposition to this one. Read more
As voting day draws close, attention focuses on our leaders debating the vital issues of the day. In America this has seen millions of people tuning in to watch the presidential candidates arguing back and forth the challenges that await the next leader of the free world. Wars overseas, the economic crash, climate change, all finely argued with points made passionately and with intellectual rigour. Well, maybe not…….. Read more

This post starts with a service announcement. We’ve been having a few problems with our computer network which has meant access to the internet has been down. But we’re back functioning. For the moment at least! Sorry about the interuption in blog service.
So to business of tales from Domestic Executive HQ. It’s been busy wildlife wise here. After the excitement of Spring in the garden we’re now spotting increased numbers of rabbits and it was a delight to look out the window on Saturday to see two pairs of ducks settled into our “roundabout”. This is a special basset hound. In fact, best of breed at the 2008 National Dog Show. See the family resemblance?
This is Clyde – or rather Courtside Sean Connery – and the brother of Fortnum and Mason. You will have seen him last in this post or this post. He’s a cutey that’s for sure.
I’m sorry to disappoint all those Fortnum and Mason fans out there that I’m not able to show you them in a show pose. So you’ll have to make do with the pose they are having right now whilst I write this post. Read more
No need to look for me in the crowd. I can assure you that I’m not there. Although I did do it way back – I think it was 1989 or 1990. I’m tried to block out the memory of it. It was all too painful to recall.
I am however delighted to be able to shout loudly that my friend Sarah did it…….yayyyyyy! Well done Sarah. And in the speedy time of 2:16:05. Very respectable for a person that’s only started running on the roads this year. Read more

It’s been a funny few days. I’ve not been getting the Domestic Executive balance right. This always happens after I’ve had a couple of weeks working from home and then have to get back into face-to-face work back in the big city. It’s an uncomfortable feeling that makes me remember why I decided to change my lifestyle in the first place.
When I’m having a tough time I do at least have my own comics-in-residence to cheer me up. Read more

This is the tell tell sign of a builder on site. The ubiquitous container that the builders keep all their paraphernalia in. After the portaloo it’s the most important bit of kit on site.
Seeing this go onto our neighbours land is a definite sign that their build is going to start flourishing soon. That is if it would stop raining. Read more
