I think you may be right Liz about not feeling confident about reading books although in truth everyone did read but it just felt like a really personal question to answer in the context of work. I know what you mean about being judgemental but I love some airhead books as much as something a little more weighty. Now I know we have more than basset hounds in common, love the fact you love books too. JT

Hi Sarah - I read Jane Austen at school and have been hooked ever since but you are right she can meander at times. JT

Loved this story and as a reader I loved that you asked a question about books as an ice breaker. Having said that, it's possible that the people in the group who are not readers may have been put on the spot by the question, perhaps being left to feel inferior. Avid readers like ourselves don't understand how people can not share a love for books or our thirst for adventure and knowledge only satiated between their pages. I also find that while I may have learned not to judge a book by it's cover, I do seem to judge people by what they read. I'd have more respect for someone who reads the classics than say Harlequin romance novels, when I really should simply be happy that they're at least exercising their grey matter as opposed to vegging on reality television.

Haha, I loved that you said the radio personalities were "in violent agreement". I know some people who discuss things like that. I have never managed Elliot either, and I find even Austen a bit meandering, so maybe it is not for me! I love that you used a book question at your workshop.
