That does look like a good pile of proto-compost! Filling the compost bin is the one bit of gardening I'm genuinely good at, as opposed to enjoy-but-mess-up :) Your plot looks great *envy* I need to start getting mine ready for the new season soon.

Rachel, I didn't know how much I would enjoy filling up my compost. It's a one of my evening chores when I put the chickens to bed to drop off the compost debris into the compost bin. It's the simple things eh!! JT

That tomato looks luscious. Good enough to eat! I agree with you about supermarket tomatoes being tasteless. Especially this time of the year for us when they have been picked half ripe and allowed to ripen on their journey here from whichever exotic place they have been grown in.

Ruta, tasteless tomatoes is something that's the norm here. I don't know why. I've tried buying all sorts but nothing beats the one's by my back door. I love nothing than a bowl of tomatoes with a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper. And when I'm feeling really naughty a touch of feta or mozzarella cheese. Yum!
