Hi Sarah, I'm slightly worried to think what breeding went into thornless brambles. Doesn't sound quite natural!

Loved our last visit to England picking blackberries with the girls and making crumble. Love that it's a thornless variety - didn't know you could get them! Certainly making picking a lot easier!

The fruit seems to be growing well despite the rabbits. I found that after a few years my raspberry canes happily romped away and now I'm weeding them out of the blackcurrants. The only problem is getting to the fruit before the blackbirds. Is that a thornless blackberry? The flowers look a bit different to the British blackberry. I do like your wild meadow area but it still looks like a lot of work to maintain.
Happy gardening.

Hi Ruta, yes its a thornless blackberry. We have plenty of the ones with thorns around the lanes so we decided we'll try this type and see what the difference is. To be honest my biggest growing worry at the moment is water. We haven't had any meaningful rain for weeks and it's getting very dry around here. Lugging watering cans around is not going to be fun. Even if we had the water. Today's going to be a check on what's in the tank to see if we need to bring in the water man!
