Every 2 or 3 weeks you should get inside the compost bin and give it a good treading down. this compacts the content and allows you to put more in the bin also allow the worms etc to have a good effect lower down.
That means you may need a ladder to get in or out?
This method has been tried and tested over the years and you will get good compost in half the time.
