Hi Ruta, we used to tether our basset when I was a child because she used to escape. The line was long enough she could reach anywhere in the garden but not get out. The only problem was that she often got herself caught up and often wound herself around the washing line and then barked like mad to be let free again! JT

Gorgeous place to build! What a view! Just met a young couple here in Alberta where we live and they've come here from New Zealand because of her job. She's a physician! Her parents are visiting at present. It's such a joy to spend time with them. Love the accent too! Thanks for visiting my Welcome to Alberta post today!

I don't think I would do it now but when we first had dogs in London the only way they could be in the garden on their own was on ropes as one could scale the 6ft fences and the terrier would dig under any fence. It was either that or leave them cooped up in the house when we were at work. They had 2 good walks running free out on the common every day and when we moved to the country they had the fields around to run in. It sounds as if your neighbours are doing the best in the circumstances for the dogs and they look happy and healthy. I don't think your 2 would enjoy that regime though.
