Scary stuff indeed. I am also a ‘grumpy old woman’ when it comes to this. We have a few (erm, better not swear) silly boys in our street that think its fun to hoon around leaving skids everywhere. Not clever and not smart. 15 is waaaayyyy too young, this is definately something NZ needs to get a grip on – not impressive at all. x

Oh, I’m with you in your sentiments. There have to be some serious policy changes here. I’m not looking forward to my girls getting to the age when ‘friends’ have cars etc. and will have to set some serious ground rules. So tragic and very, very frightening.

Don’t you think its a bit of a male macho thing to say ‘Oh they’re only lads having a bit of fun’. Perhaps I’m just being sexist but I suspect that male policy makers would somehow feel emasculated by introducing measures to make things safer. Until a member of their family is involved they don’t seem to see the cost of such machismo. We have our fair share of young idiots here on the roads and the highest numbers of deaths occur with new drivers but I’m glad that the extreemly high insurance costs for the under 25s keeps many youngsters off the roads. Yes I too am a grumpy old woman who doesn’t want to see this stupid carnage continue.
