It is confusing about where to exercise dogs. Upper Hutt is pretty good you can take them really anywhere as long as you clean up!

As for cool places to walk try these:

Rimutaka Incline (a lovely flat walk)off SH2. Just off Kaitoke Loop Rd in fact.

Kaitoke Regional Park (further up SH2) take Waterworks following signs.

Tunnel Gulley (take right by dairy at Te Marua) and then on the bend take left up Plateau Road.

These are all within 20/30 minutes for you.
