It was a relief this weekend to see so many of the trees and shrubs in the garden springing into life.  This picture shows a true miracle.  New shoots on a Viburnum Burkwoodii that should be pride of place under one of the turret windows.

It was unfortunately subject to a basset attack not long after it was planted and then a rabbit finished it off.  I thought I’d leave it and see if it would grow back.  Luckily it now has.  Phew, that’s lucky.

Right next to the stick and shoots is a proliferation of Leptospermum Huia with their pretty pink flowers.

Here you can see them looking real pretty.  In case your wondering the big arrow points to the next planting challenge to bring the roundabout in the drive into the garden style.

But let’s not dwell on what’s still to do.  If I did that there’d be enough material for this blog for the next 10 years.   Better to celebrate the work done this weekend.

Firstly, here’s the evidence of the completed procrastination challenge.  The bed to the left was fenced in.  It makes everything look much tidier and it’s easier to see when I’m going to reverse the car over the flower beds now!

Around the back it was a tidy up job too.  To cut the edges on the beds and take away the redundant basset fencing that had been systemmatically flattened by the dogs with the big paws.

First up the bed under the back veranda where the Rhododendron Elizabeth have been tantalisingly in bud since they were planted.

Now looking back towards the soon to be herb/salad garden has also had a trim.  We need to find something a bit more attractive to hide the heat pump unit!

Finally the bed where the Chatham Island Forget Me Nots are thriving.  This is despite the bassets using this as their most convenient spot by the back door!

Although there is still acres of work to do.  It’s good to see the garden taking shape.  Most exciting are the trees that have been planted just weeks ago are also springing into life.  Since we’ve planted 150 trees I do feel that it’s lucky that so many have started to burst into life.  Phew!
