With election fever this week not to mention a pretty hectic work week it’s almost too much excitement all round.  I couldn’t resist sharing the excitement close to home though.  The neighbours house is sprouting rapidly from the ground now.

Yes, they are underway with their construction as you can see from this picture.

There construction is like a building set.  There is no framing and filling in, simply construct the walls – internal and external – with interlocking beams.  The house name is Lockwood so that’s a bit of a giveaway. Our neighbours are building a Lockwood ecohome which looks really cool. It’s going to be light an airy with wood throughout.  No gibbing, plastering and painting required.

We’ve had rotten weather this week – rain, hail and a little snow on the hills – so hardly ideal building weather.  Nevertheless the build has continued and they look like the core of the wall structure is in place. Next the roof to make it watertight and then the fiddly bit starts.  In the meantime, these pictures will give you a sense of all the wood that makes up this house.

And in case you’re wondering about the line through the next picture. It’s the wire fencing.  I was trying to be sneeky and take the pictures through the fence.

An as if that wasn’t enough to get excited about my best friend has gone and bought herself a new place too.  An art deco townhouse in Wellington city – on the sunny side of town no less.  Can’t wait to see the place for real.
