As normal radio programmes returned this morning after a month of summer time scheduling (yes, things close down over the holidays), I thought it’s time I eased myself back into business as usual.  As a Domestic Executive this is a truly wonderful thing.  My business as usual routine means flexibility and doing all I need to do in whatever orders works best for me.

I know I’m dead lucky and I take nothing for granted.  Nevertheless I’m struggling to get back into business.  Real business I mean.

Yes, that means re-engaging with my own business.  Clients and paid work.  the phone has been ringing more often with work related calls and the emails have been increasing.  All really positive signs in this economic down turn.

But before all that concentration on work this morning I had my priorities.  Dog walking.  the picture at the top of this post was snapped by my father in law and is what happens when I get out of the car when the bassets are in the back.  I remembered it as this morning they were most distressed when we dropped MT off at the station before heading off for the basset daily constitutional.  Lots of squeaking from Fortnum who perhaps would have preferred a trip on the train to town.

Our daily constitutional would normally involve this.

Yes big basset with short legs manages to get his paws up onto the car but always needs a lift with his rear end.  It can be quite tricky when you’re trying to hang on to your rather special camera too.

Back at Domestic Executive HQ I’ve made a start of trawling my emails and responding to those calls.  It’s nice to know I’m wanted.  I can’t face anything more that being responsive as being proactive requires more effort than I have time today.  There’s weeding to be done and other domestic chores.

After all as MT says, always good to save a bit till tomorrow.  But tomorrow I will have to really get back into the swing of booking client appointments for next week an beyond.

I’m sure when I get stuck in I’ll start to enjoy the work but for the moment I’m more interested in tackling my long list of outdoor chores.  There’s also an ironing mountain since my mother-in-law has gone back and the same day laundry service has now finished.

I’m finding getting back into business as usual is no easier working from home as it was when I went to an office every day.  I’m sure that I’ll work through the pain barrier and soon get into the swing of things.

So business as usual for a Domestic Executive means:

  • Dog Walking
  • Housekeeping
  • Non paid office work
  • Paid coaching and consulting
  • Land management and gardening
  • Construction and site management
  • Photography
  • Blogging
  • Food shopping and cooking.

Pretty standard stuff.  What makes up your business as usual?  I’d love to know.
