I was asked today whether I would ever consider leaving New Zealand because of the dreadful weather.  It was a powerful question to ponder as I watched the retched rain pummel down creating mini lakes around the house and the gale force gusty wind causing the trees to bow. On balance I think not, although I reserve a woman’s right to change her mind if this weather gets any wetter.

No doubt we could do with a break in this winter.  It’s wetter than ever I remember and it’s not a good feeling.  The golden sunshine of last weekend was a precious moment to enjoy.  Even the basset took their miserable looks out to play in the sun.  This is the look of two tired and exasperated hounds patiently waiting for us to finish our latest gardening project. More on that tomorrow.

Aside from the bad weather the bassets are having a bad run of luck too.  Fortnum is still nursing a poorly paw although getting stronger and ripe for a return to full walking duties.  Little basset has become our latest worry and has given us more than one sleepless night this week.  He’s been suffering from an unknown skin allergy which has not responded to treatment and has forced some secondary infections.  Our poor little Basset was in a right manic pickle last night causing higher than usually level of worry.  A swift visit to see our lovely vets had brought things back in balance and Mason is back more like his usual self.

What with the rotten weather and basset ailments we could certainly do with a break.
