Even die hard Wellingtonians are finding the last few days of foul weather a grind.  The winds were so strong in town today that I had to hang onto a lamppost to stop myself from being swept off my feet.  Days of gale winds and driving rain have brought chaos to the central North Island with people being evacuated from their homes as rain causes extreme flooding on low lying areas.

A power line was blown down so Kaitoke was plunged into darkness for several hours. Once again we’re reminded how much we rely on power – mainly to fuel our water pump. Luckily they were able to restore power again so we’re back up and running.

It doesn’t take long for me to slump into a funk when the clouds close in on me so I keep looking back into my photograph archives to remind myself that this is a just a weather front and eventually it will blow through and we’ll be  back to our rural idyll before long.
