It’s been snow, snow, snow here this week on the blog.  It’s been a few days in the making but time for an overdose of basset hounds at play.  If you’re not fans of basset hounds you might want to look away now. But if like me you don’t mind a spot of basset blogging it’s been one big snow adventure for the hounds.

They’ve never really encountered snow before but no doubt that a covering of white, wet, crunchy, smelly stuff was a big hit where the bassets were concerned.  Lots of play, hooning and deep dive snow sniffing.

First up you’ve got to credit the hounds for traditional sibling play tactics which like all boy play involved plenty of dirty tricks.

Mason certainly seemed to have the upper hand for a while.

Little Basset certainly surpassed himself when it came to hooning around.

And to be honest, Mason was for a while ahead on the sniffing stakes but it wasn’t long before Big Basset was vying for deep snow sniffing supremacy.

No doubt that Mason was stepping it up for the camera which makes a change.

All round I think that they had a wonderful time.  Fortnum was obsessed and whimpered and whined all day to be let out to play and sniff.

For a moment I even let go of the camera and played for a while but there was rather too much dirty tricks being played.  Aside from that I could hardly move with all the clothes I had on which made me look like a Michelin Man.  I wasn’t taking any chances – thermals, jeans, lined waterproofs, 3 merino sweaters, fleece waistcoat, fleece and windcheater.  I stayed nice and toasty warm!

Within 48 hours you’d never have known that we had such a dump of snow.  Thankfully the sun has shone for the rest of the week and brought us some beautiful winter sunshine days.  The bassets have been just as happy lounging on the veranda in the sun.  Perhaps dreaming of their snow play adventure or most probably what they are going to eat for dinner.
