We’ve been getting a shot of summer here at Domestic Executive HQ.  Beautiful sunny days, then a bit of cloud and then some more sun.  It’s been a test of our memories to slip, slap and slop to protect ourselves from the rays.

The bassets however have no compulsion apart from shifting themselves into the shade.  You’d think that we had a couple of seals living here.  Check out the picture above.  Don’t they look like seals basking to you?

Check out a closer view.

Compare and contrast!

OK, so Fortnum and Mason don’t have flippers but it made me chuckle to see them doing their seal impression.  I was however a little confused as to why they had taken to lying on the gravel.  Nasty, pointy and uncomfortable drive. Here they are again.  Same pose, different location on the drive.

Oh hang on, a bit of light relief on the grass.  I know this is only because I’m weeding the bed close by.

Not for long though.  Back on the drive.

I don’t want you to think that this is a regular occurrence.  Our pampered pooches are normally to be found lounging on the veranda on their big sofa.

This is where they sniff in the breeze and hang around looking for mischief.  This picture just sums up their characters.  Fortnum laid back checking out the view.  Not for little basset he’s got that look in his eye.  That’s the devil in him about to come out.  Don’t be fooled by the cute looks!
