Cute faces are what make the basset hound such an adorable dog. It’s easy to forget though that bassets come in all shapes and sizes. There was no denying this fact today as I was surrounded by no less than 10 basset hounds. Fortnum and Mason are going to have no shortage of new playmates during their holiday retreat.
They have gone home to stay with their mum, uncle, sibblings and a wide range of other distant relatives. This is Pebbles, I think she’s the grandma.
Can you spot the family resemblance?
Front left is Abbie, she’s Fortnum and Mason’s mum. Front right is Berkley, she’s their uncle. Fortnum and he look alike and it can be hard to pick them out from the pack.
It’s always a flurry of activity with so many dogs around. Mason was wasting no time getting to know the family again. At first he was happy for Dave to be checking him out – as long as he looked, sniffed and didn’t touch. Clearly it wasn’t all Mason was expecting as he gave Dave a furious look!
He remained unconcerned though and set off to say hello to everyone else. He’s a smart dog making effort with the pack hierachy. Unlike Fortnum who was more concerned about his new arch enemy spending all his time sniffing around and barking at a resident lamb. I really do fear for Fortnum that lamb looks viscious, right!
Mason was keen to say hello to his brother and sister – Bonnie and Clyde.
I think Fortnum has the right idea finally though sucking up to Nikki who he clearly thought was about to feed him. Look, he’s right up front there. What a creep he is and right in front of me!
I know that Fortnum and Mason will love their holiday as much as we will. They will enjoy playing with their family and learn to live alongside lambs, ponies and cats. I heard that Mason is not keen on the cats though.
The house seems very empty tonight. No basset shuffle following me around. It’s not a good feeling.
Those bassets infiltrate your life and your heart. I know that they will be happy and safe at their holiday home but for now I miss them. Really miss them. Damned bassets even when they are not here they are giving me heartache.
At least I have about 2000 pictures of them to look at if I want to remind myself of their cute basset faces and I an relive my stories of them through this blog.
Awww, I really feel for you and saying farewell for the holiday must be so hard. We used to feel the same about our old cat, Simba – he’d climb in the suitcases as we packed as though he wanted to come with us – and when we got back he’d sit in them again to re-scent them!
But, as you say, they will be very well looked after and will have their own adventures whilst you head off on yours. Wishing you safe travels and a really wonderful trip. Bon voyage!
