Be careful for what you wish!

It’s always good to be careful what you wish for.  You never know it might get you if you don’t.  Certainly these past few days we’ve been reaping the results of my wish. And, it’s not been universally welcomed in our household.

Last push to Christmas – how’s yours going?

I’ve been reflecting on what it is that’s been holding me back with Christmas preparations.  I’m sticking with the fact that I’ve still not found my peace with Christmas down here in the southern hemisphere. Having said that, I am still loving finding Christmas trees amongst the ferns. Here’s a new one today from Tunnel [...]

A clearer view – now that’s nice!

Although these pictures don’t do it justice, I have a much clearer picture out of my kitchen window these days.  In fact, I have a clearer picture full stop.  It’s been a while but after struggling to read the instructions on a jar of cooking sauce I decided it was time to get my glasses [...]

Festive mood – what’s yours like?

So how are your festive preparations going?  I bet you’ve finished your shopping, wrapped your gifts, prepared the table and are ready to get going with the celebrations. Yeah right!  You’re not are you?

Lock down but not watertight

Our neighbours house is progressing.  They’ve just had the windows down which means it’s locked down.  With the roof covering still to go on it’s not quite watertight.  That’s a bit of a shame really as it’s been bucketing down this week. I know you’ve been wondering how they are going to clad this wooden [...]

Garden worries!

I’m getting nervous.  My vegetables are growing.  This is not the first time that I’ve grow vegetables but the first time I’ve worried about them.  After all this is my experiment kitchen garden to determine whether we should go the whole hog and build a potager next year. As if I haven’t got enough to [...]

What’s your perfect life?

Here at Domestic Executive HQ there are two bassets who think they have died and gone to heaven.  Two more people to pester and walks galore.  Yes, they had two walks today – and long may it continue I can hear them say. Yes, it’s a dream life for Fortnum and Mason there is no [...]

Reinforcements – my dream’s come true!

A little like Fortnum here, I’ve been looking for some comfort where my thistle harvesting has been concerned.  It’s a dispiriting experience to be plugging away at the blighters and seemingly making little progress.  It has left me with a bit of a procrastination problem so I’ve been avoiding it completely. Imagine how I now [...]

To do lists, how long is yours?

With a jobs list as long as your arm there was no slacking at Domestic Executive HQ today.  No time to waste.  There was grass to be mowed, gorse to be cut and thistles to be dug out. Good job my in-laws are back on their feet and ready to roll with some chores. But [...]

How would it be to have your own Watership down?

I took a stroll in the garden tonight to check out what’s happening with the fruit bushes and trees.  The chickens were out free ranging but pretty hard to see.  The grass has grown so tall around their pen you have to look for their red combs to pick them out. It struck me as [...]
